Getting Started with bFabric
Register as new user onbFabric following the steps.
Fill in the registration form. It is important that the information you enter is correct. It will be used for correspondence (i.e. for invoicing).
Fields indicated by red dots are mandatory fields. Several fields have restrictions that are described below.
Login: The login must contain only lower case letters (a-z)
Password: The password must contain at least 8 characters. It must contain at least one upper case letter (A-Z), at least one lower case letter (a-z), and at least one number (0-9). It must NOT contain the login, first or last name of the user. The use of ' ' (whitespace) is NOT allowed.
Organization Type: In the Organization Type dropdown you can select between University and Company. If you select University additional input fields/dropdowns will appear to select your Organization, your Department, and your Institute. If you select Company you will get input fields to select your Company and your Division.
News Mail Enabled: Uncheck this box if you do not wish to receive news about B-Fabric (i.e. information about new features or training)
Email Active: By selecting this checkbox, you confirm that your email address is valid. It is important that you enter a valid email address that you use frequently, because a lot of communication in the userlab or during the order process is done by email.
Save the registration form. As you do so, an account is created. You then receive a confirmation by e-mail.
Requesting a new project
Go to the Request Project form: To request a project you have to be logged in to B-Fabric. Click the “Create Project” link in the add menu ➕ in the menu bar at the top of the page.
Accept the User Lab Project Guidelines: Next you have to carefully read and accept the User Lab Project Guidelines.
Fill in the form: Now you can fill in the form. Fields with a red dot are required:
Project Name: Choose an appropriate name that well describes the direction of the intended project. Ideally, the name is short and less than 256 characters.
Contact: Select the designated project contact person (for communication with LiRI). Usually it is the same person as the project leader, but it can also be another person.
Budget Officer: Select the budget officer (usually a professor) who is legally and financially responsible for the project.
Leader: Select the designated project leader. This is usually the PI who is responcible for the project.
Technologies: Choose the technology that will be needed in this project.
Summary: The summary is an abstract of the project with less than 200 words.
Description: Provide a detailed description of the intended project in PDF format prepared according to the LiRI Project Description Guidelines. For the preparation of the project description you may use the project description template:LiRI-project proposal (PDF, 67 KB).
Billing Data
Billing data will be automaticall filled in with any billing information already provided when the user account of the project requester. Insure that this information is correct or edit it if required.
Add/Remove Project Members
Go to members section of the “Show Project” screen. To add a user as member or manager of the project, click on the “Add User” button.
In the “Add User” screen use the input field to search for the desired user. The autocompleter of this field will deliver all matching users. Select the desired one and choose whether the user should be added as member or manager to the project. Click then on the “Add” button.
Booking Loan Equipment
At present it is only possible for LiRI staff to book loan equipment for you. You can however check availability on bFabric by going to 🗓 Calendar Menu and selecting 'Instrument Reservation'.
To make a booking please email lab@linguistik.uzh.ch with the following information:

Project id and name

Equipment required
-
Desired collection date
-
Duration of the loan
Please note that we need at least 48 hours notice between accepting a booking and collecting the equipment.
Booking a booth in the lab

Begin by logging into bFabric and selecting the project you wish to make the booking under if you are a member of multiple projects.

Click on the calendar icon in the menu bar then select ‘Instrument Reservation.’

On the right hand side of the screen use the dropdown menu to filter for just the 'testing booths.'

In the calendar click on the day you want to make a booking:

When you click on the day it will zoom into an 15 min by 15 min view for the week. Click on the 15 min segment you want your booking to start. This will open a form to fill in the booking details:

Use the description field to list any extra equipment you use during the session.

Then click save. The system should then email you a booking confirmation.
