Exploring Synergies: LiRI Welcomes Medical University Delegates for Collaborative Dialogue

On Tuesday, October 29, LiRI welcomed representatives from the University of Zurich’s medical community, including Prof. Beatrice Beck Schimmer, Vice President Medicine Zurich and member of the University Executive Board; Adrian Kägi, ViciMed AG Board member and Partner; PD Dr. Suzana Atanasoski, Head of Strategic Projects UMZH; and Giovanni Spitale from Prof. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Nikola Biller-Andorno’s team at the Institute of Biomedical Ethics and History of Medicine. They were joined by members of the Competence Centre for Language and Medicine, including  Yvonne Ilg, Prof. Dr. Johannes Kabatek and Prof. Dr. Nathalie Giroud, and Dr. Anke Maatz.

During the visit, LiRI showcased its state-of-the-art research facilities and its commitment to advancing research at the intersection of language and medicine. Equipped with specialized tools such as EEG, electromagnetic articulography, VR goggles, eye-tracking devices, and ultrasound, LiRI offers researchers unique resources to explore language-related health research. LiRI also provides innovative text and corpus analysis methods to study language use by patients and healthcare professionals, as well as projects in voice health and the role of voice perception in mental health.

The exchange sparked a lively discussion about future research collaborations. All attendees expressed a strong interest in fostering partnerships that blend language and medical insights, underscoring the promising future of this interdisciplinary effort.
