Daniel Friedrichs earned his PhD in General Linguistics from the University of Zurich and completed postdoctoral research at University College London (UCL)’s Department of Speech, Hearing, and Phonetic Sciences, as well as the University of Cambridge’s Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics. He currently serves as a Data Scientist and holds a part-time position at LiRI alongside his primary research activities. Daniel specializes in speech signal processing and acoustics, utilizing articulatory imaging techniques such as electromagnetic articulography (EMA) and employing vocal tract measurement methods like pharyngometry and rhinometry. He has successfully combined these articulatory methods with neuroimaging techniques, including electroencephalography (EEG) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), to facilitate multimodal research approaches. His research encompasses speech production, acoustics, perception, and synthesis, complemented by experience in forensic applications. Most recently, Daniel has focused on voice biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's, while also exploring language evolution and being involved in animal vocalization studies in primate species and wolves.
