Pavo Operic talks about "Voices and Robots: from self-voice misperceptions to robotically-induced hallucinations" on April 10 in Zurich-Oerlikon.
Join in on April 10th at 12:15 PM in room AND-2-46 for an intriguing talk by Dr. Pavo Orepic from the University of Geneva. The discussion, titled "Voices and Robots: from self-voice misperceptions to robotically-induced hallucinations," is part of the Phonetics Lunch Meeting series.
Abstract: Dr. Orepic explores the peculiar world of our own voice sounding unnatural and its link to hallucinations. His research, grounded in the theory that auditory-verbal hallucinations (AVH) — "hearing voices" — stem from misattributing self-generated speech, uncovers the behavioral, neural, and clinical factors behind self-other voice discrimination. Additionally, he will share how AVH-like sensations were induced in healthy individuals through a robotic procedure, showcasing the multisensory nature of self-voice and its potential as a marker for self-consciousness deficits.
